FAQs
Is the Comedy Showdown open to anyone?
The Competition is open to any individual or group (consisting of no more than five members) who are residents of the US or Canada and are 13 years of age or older. By the way, it helps if you're funny.
Where can I learn about the rules for this contest?
Check out the "How It Works" link above to learn about the rules of this contest.
Who picks the winner of this Competition?
The winners will be selected by a combination of voting by the online fans and judging by an expert panel of judges. The online fans will select the Top 20 quarterfinalists from each of the respective genres (stand-up and sketch). Semifinalists and finalists will be selected by both the online fans and the expert judges (50/50 weighting). Our finalists will then go toe-to-toe for all the marbles live on the stage at Comix (September 13, 2007).
I'm having issues uploading my video. What's the problem?
Your video entry must be no longer than ten (10) minutes in length, no larger than 100MB and must be in one of the following file formats: .asf, mqv, .mov, .wmv, .avi, .dv, .mpg, .mpg4, .3gp and .3gp2.
How many comedy videos can be uploaded / entered into the Competition?
Each stand-up comedian or sketch comedy group can upload as many original comedy videos as they wish during Round 1, but only one such upload / entry can make it into the quarterfinals as determined by the online audience vote. Those contestants making it past Round 1 will be allowed to upload only one video in each successive round.
If I make it through to Round 3, do I have to submit another video entry?
Yes. Each contestant making it to the semifinals must submit one new video entry for Round 3. The new video entry must be an original work created by the contestant and must not have been previously entered into this competition (i.e. you can’t recycle a Round 1 or 2 entry). Failure to upload a Round 3 entry by the deadline (August 27, 2007 at 11:59 AM Eastern) will result in the disqualification of the semifinalist.
How can I get more votes for my video entry?
We've found that promoting yourself through your online and offline network is the best way to "get out the vote". The Round 1 voting window opens to the online fans on Monday, July 29, 2007.
Somebody made a nasty comment about my video entry. Can I remove the comment?
The Project Breakout Comedy Showdown is held in the public forum. As such, contestants must be able to take the good with the bad. If you feel that the comment has truly "crossed the line", please email us at touchbase@projectbreakout.com and we will check the comment for appropriateness.
